Fuck Yeah Led Zeppelin!, re: ITTOD, it is my impression that the band was still under contract for another album, and Page and Bonham’s drug habits took them out of commission, Plant had an injury, so JPJ was left to compose most of the music. That why it’s comparatively slow, long, and piano/organ heavy. No great guitar riffs like the early days, and a ton more soulful sadness coming from the quiet guy

this sounds about right. if I’m not wrong, this was also during the time when Plant’s son passed away, so there’s even more emotion coming into the album.
